Every June, golfers from near and far gather at the San Juan Island Golf Club for the San Juan Island Celebrity Golf Classic. The most celebrated celebrity to attend this event so far has been Edgar Martinez, a Seattle Mariners power hitter, who flew up here in 2005 to knock the little white ball around. I’m not a golf fan, nor a baseball fan for that matter, so I spent the day on the couch reading the Diary of Anne Frank. But it’s quite the attraction, a big fundraiser for local charities, and an opportunity for local corporate sponsorship.
